All Animals Attacking All Humans at All Times Until the End of Time

Lucid TV is a thing of John, David and Hutch

6/24/09 04:34 am - even more guest strips

Octopus Pie
fun fact: Meredith asked me to do a guest strip on the very same night I developed the reputation as the guy who has thoroughly learned his lesson about drinking absinthe.

Wondermark!
fun fact: I have never been in pain for several days because of something Malki ! has done. Well, yet.

6/19/09 04:48 pm - FW: these old men RE: I hate these old men

status of sketches and books: about halfway done and then I will mail them out sometime early next week

in addition to being regular busy with drawing stuff for people, i am in the midst of trying to move to easthampton, where i am told everything is beautiful and nothing hurts

6/10/09 11:38 pm - sprinkle my contribution on the children... so that they may dream

obviously need some new brushes. no goddamn tones fuckin' up your christmas, though.

So yes you can buy a mini-comic!

They are $5, or $8 if you do not live in the North Americos

I will do an awesome sketch of your extreme choosing in your rad mini if you buy one. Tubular!

Paypal the appropriate amount of money to john.lucidtv AT gmail.com if you would like one!

6/9/09 12:14 am - good mocca time boys 09

ALRIGHT first of all: I've got a bunch of minis leftover from the convention, and rather than allow them to begin gathering dust in the corner I figure I will try to get rid of them.

SO if you paypal $5 to john.lucidtv AT gmail.com I will send you a copy of "There is a Light" (which, if you have already forgotten, is the 10 page mini-comic Geoff Wessel wrote and I drew), and I will include a nice, inked, moleskine-page-sized sketch of something for you.

I'm happy to do (reasonable) requests. No furry stuff though.

So yeah, help me get these goddamn things out of my sight!

con report:
it was a good time!

spike reiley and neeksy thank you for helping me survive

lily frank becky the baron steve sean emily gary jro and george thank you for keeping me company throughout you are all solid bros

both the dirty dogs from the old days and everyone i met for the first time: you are all of good quality

thank you everyone who bought the dang book and thank you everyone who politely accepted copies when i was in get-rid-of-as-many-as-possible mode (or waited till i moved on to throw it out)

6/4/09 09:32 pm - book

Work on this spanned from 9:00PM Friday May 29th to 9:00PM Thursday June 4th LET THIS BE THE PROOF that I do not draw slowly, I simply do not draw often enough. Dunno how long it took Geoff to write but darn it I drew 10+ pages in a week that is something.

MoCCA

TABLE 116: ME, SPIKE, REILEY

BE THERE

5/28/09 04:12 pm - shameless i am shameless no shame zone

Topato & Sons Sequential Art Web-Curio Boutique Inc. is now a seller of these:

YOU GET:
-fancy 27-panel comic
-fancy bird drawings with fancy hand-lettering of words that are the title
-18" x 24" sheet of (fancy) paper with those things on it
-a fashionable cardboard tube with mail stuff affixed to it

Also hey I will be at MoCCA sharing a table with Spike and Reiley.

I mentioned on twitter that I would have two minis, but since I cannot budget my time, I have made a liar out of myself. The one mini I will have is not related to Lucid TV, is instead a collab with Geoff Wessel about something I will disclose later.

Also relevant, Geoff and I have a one-page story in Phonogram vs. The Fans which will be on sale at SDCC and SDCC only.

5/7/09 10:02 pm - wanna play that guitar

made a flyer for a show the band i am in is playing. if you happen to live in danbury, you will begin to see this all over the place shortly. do not be alarmed.

-half-assed the lettering a bit, largely to fill up space, i am completely tired of lettering, BUT there may be something available from topatoco in the near future that proves i am decent at fancy lettering
-i guess this is a young son house in that famous robert johnson pose. sadly, no old blues men will be attending the show.
-drawing guitars is difficult but fulfilling

5/4/09 01:31 am - Paradise Alley #3

Bursting through the thick steam hissing from the manhole at the corner of Down and Out comes another rip-roaring installment of Paradise Alley!!

In case you can't read the marquee, the ruined opera was "La Brohème."

5/2/09 07:50 pm - belushicut follies: act 666

Here's a comic!

Who updates on a Saturday? Really, now.

Hey I hope you jive-ass trick-ass mark-ass tricks are reading Radical Boy.

4/3/09 07:19 am - feels good man

So yes I got a little busy and I have a whole bunch of non-comic drawing to do. Oh well! Pretend I drew and posted a comic where a man falls on his bottom and then his only child dies. Yes this is hilarious did you see the part where a bad thing happened to a good person? HA HA

It's a little late for a big NEWW recap, so I will be brief. I had a great time, saw many good friends, met many new people, was welcomed into the homes of various webcomic power couples, fell in with a rather bad crowd and met a tragic end. Then Andrew Hussie drew me a Humanimal. Fuckin' awesome.

KC suggested I try inkin' with a larger brush, so I got my hands on a few, and gave the #1 a shot. Retains much more ink and takes longer to dry out, so lines come out easily and do not break or sputter. A welcome change. BUT it becomes much harder to end lines with decent points, and to be able to do that is IMPORTANT. I will keep at it. Here is what I drew:

Also, after several months of the Last.fm scrobbler not working I switched to one of the unofficial ones, and it appears to be doing its job. SO now we can be Last.fm buddies, if that is something you want to happen.

3/23/09 06:32 pm - first drafts

yeah here is what I was going to go with originally

3/23/09 02:27 am - more guest strips

Hey more guest strips!

A reasonably-sized one on Bobwhite!

A ridiculously huge one on Questionable Content!

Props to my art-hero Matthew Woodson for making lonely landscapes and rounded panel edges so damn appealing

Props for anyone who knows what the dream is referencing

---------

Ohhhh man Webcomics Weekend was nnnnnnnuts.

Still in Easthampton and quickly getting sleepy so I will compose a report when I get home tomorrow. Names will be named and maybe I will scan the Humanimal sketch Andrew Hussie did for me

3/20/09 12:58 am - weak comics web end

Part two of two. Had to draw this very quickly and with a brush that has been unusable for quite some time, because I felt it was important to update before Webcomics Weekend.

So yes I'm going to be there for all three days. I don't have anything to sell so I will just be walking around / maybe helping out here and there / being a nuisance to more popular cartoonists (HAHA I THINK I'M ONE OF THEM, HOW CUTE).

If you run into me (I'll be the white guy in an ironic t-shirt), I'll be happy to chat and sketch something for you.

If you run into me in the men's room, just give me the signal and I will be happy to sketch something on your interzone.

If you run into me in the women's room, you can assume that something has gone wrong.

If you run into me on the pub crawl I'll be happy to fight you because for some reason you don't think Achewood is funny.

3/10/09 11:15 pm - GET TO THE CHOPPY

I did some guest stuff.

-Three depressing vignettes about Herman who is a manatee. The second entry in the best guest function in webcomics history??? (Television's Robert Patrick did last week's strip, and installments from Rachel Clémenceau and Janet Ångström will happen next Wednesday and nnexxt Wednesday.)

-I also deanthropomorphized a Funster into a young, drunk Tom Waits. I think that was the assignment?

-Gonna have a normal strip up soon. Been working on other stuff. Just about done with other stuff.

-There's a big sketch of Bertie Wooster and a study of how Alex Rayond drew faces in profile behind the cut if you think that will hold you over... )

2/13/09 05:44 am - bad steve albini likeness comix (part one of two)

A return to form? Maybe if I had made myself enough room to cram all of the first doctor's last sentence into the third panel. A part TWO is forthcoming and it is about the same thing (laughing in the face of death/responsibility???)

In related news, I have been reading too much PHIZ.

2/8/09 08:02 pm - Anger Sees Grey

Kenneth Anger. Big version behind the cut. )

2/7/09 08:00 pm - Scout Niblett Plastic Vampire Teeth Sailor E.X.P.L.O.S.I.O.N. X5000 Corps

I will never be Matthew Woodson, but I suppose I'll keep trying.

1/31/09 10:12 pm - ART POST WHOA

A logo I made for my friend Steve. This is the Tony Bourdain Cowboy thing I was talking about on Twitter. I'm new to the idea of commissions, so a question for those of you who do them: HEY, SAY I WANTED TO GET INTO DOING COMMISSIONS, what would be a fair price to charge for something like this?

NOTE 1: I LOVE cowboy shirts, if for some reason for the rest of my life I could only wear cowboy shirts, well I think that would end up being a life well-lived.

NOTE 2: I don't know anything about guns, so I figured Deadwood was as good a place as any for reference material. This'n was meticulously copied from Seth Bullock's pistol.

NOTE 3: Also I guess I'm gonna have to learn how to color sooner or later, huh?

1/29/09 03:31 am - What Bears Will Do To Us

Since we last spoke, several others have picked up on this Hello Kitty idea. I don't know what they think it means but I assure you the answer is in the above strip.

Any passing resemblance to a certain song I like is mere coincidence. JUST ASK JOSE GONZALEZ, he knows the score.

1/19/09 04:17 pm - No Comment

"No comment" is itself a very telling comment. You can't win.

Oh also I took a couple progress photos ).
